Finding: B.C. Teacher Comments Confirm "Half-Breed" Students in 1862

The research team uncovered evidence of Métis in 1862 in a classroom in Moodyville, present-day North Vancouver.

"Most of the children were white, some were half-breeds."

We also know from other BCMF research that approximately forty per cent of the women and children of Moodyville and Granville were either of Indian or Mixed-Blood ancestry.

Shaw, N. de B., Moodyvilles's first teacher was a young American Girl. The Vancouver Daily Province, 20 Sep 1947: 53.
